A Cobalt outdrive acts as a rudder under all speed conditions; and the twin propeller configuration ensures a tremendous “bite” on the water, thus providing confident steering full-time. In contrast, a jet drive steers by directional thrust, basically like a large jet ski. So, one must increase the engine speed to increase steering ability. Once the jet stream is reduced, so is the boat’s ability to steer. Slower speed steering while towing tubes, etc, or around the dock are especially challenging with a jet system, because there is such reduced thrust with which to steer. Next
